What's On for HK Families This Weekend: 22–23 Aug 2026

Who else has been enjoying the breezy weather and kids back at school? Ngl, I’ve been a little quiet on the social media front the past month — trying to soak in the memories with my kids and also just pooped afterwards, but now that they’re back in school I’m gonna try a little harder (whilst still balancing the desire not to burn out creating content haha) so stay tuned!

Wanchai: The Gruffalo

I’m sure this needs no introduction but this is a stage show you don’t want to miss! It’s happening a couple weeks from now but letting you know early so you can book the good seats! Go, enjoy, and get prepared for them to want to read the book every night until eternity afterwards 🤣 PS — go for the Friday shows for a special Gruffalo photo op! Kai Tak: Creative Children Festival at AIRSIDE

Five interactive zones where kids can brush fuzzy monsters, build “monster planets,” and generally get hands-on weird. Cheap entry, AC’d, and easy MTR access. This one’s going to be packed — go early.

West Kowloon, M+: Free Drawing and Story Time Workshops

Love me some M+ Family Drop Ins — even better when there are two! There’s an unusual drawing workshop (think drawing with toothbrushes) as well as 20-minute Cantonese and English story time sessions, both inspired by the Design Ah exhibition — aka the perfect rainy day backup or AC escape.

Central: Youth Fringe Festival

A whole week of youth performances — music, theatre, dance — and the weekend shows are particularly family-friendly. Great intro to live arts for your kids. A few picks: a free artwork exhibition by the illustrator of Guess How Much I Love You, a parent-child Taylor Swift dance class, and trying random instruments with the 6 Cat Studio orchestra jam.
