What's On for HK Families This Weekend: 29–30 Aug 2026

First red rain on a school day — I guess we’re lucky that this year has had minimal weather related disruptions (so far!) but I am in awe of how HK parents deal with this on a regular basis during typhoon season! Thank god for condo indoor playrooms and light rain play 😅 Anyway, here’s my picks for the upcoming weekend — and another for a fun workshop in the future (putting it here now so you can sign up by the deadline).

Central: Hong Kong Maritime Museum Family Fun Day x Marine Parks 30th Anniversary

This is the big one this weekend. FREE entry, body painting for the littles (1-5pm), guided tours, marine conservation booths, and ocean science talks. It’s indoors with AC, which frankly is the real selling point with this weather. Great for any age and my kids enjoy generally running about and looking at the boats here (;

Tsuen Wan: Space Fantasy — Family Musical

A mix of live orchestra and electronic music performances combined with theatre, song, dance, digital art and circus acts? Hello, that sounds genuinely quite cool 😎 Performed by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, the story follows a girl (performed by 10 year old harpist, Adeline Wong!) meeting an alien (relatable content for any parent). Ages 3+. Indoor, air-conditioned, and creative — won a bunch of awards in Spain apparently.

Tsim Sha Tsui: Harbour City Bazaar — Kids Books, Toys & Baby Stuff Sale

Books at 80% off, baby carriers slashed from $849 to $499, Mickey water bottles for $39. It’s a warehouse sale situation at Harbour City Bazaar (5/F, 9 Canton Road). Stock up before school starts. Runs all weekend.

Tai Po: Play in the Woods — Forest Night Shadows Overnight Camp

A proper 2-day-1-night parent-and-child adventure inside Kadoorie Farm — storytelling, sensory play, forest art, and a torchlit night walk hunting bugs and animal tracks (this is the kind of thing that becomes a core memory, not just an outing). It’s built specifically for ages 4-5 with one parent, capped at 8 family groups, so it stays intimate rather than a mob. Caveat: it’s a splurge (HK$2,300/pair, accommodation from HK$950, extra parent HK$1,500) and meals + transport from Tai Po Market are included. Book by 31 Aug, first come first serve!
