What's On for HK Families This Weekend: 5–6 Sep 2026

Is the weather finally getting a little cooler? My fingers are crossed! 😅 Here’s my picks for the upcoming weekend — proud to say I learnt something new today which is that dino fossils were discovered in HK (I’m picturing T-Rex roaming around Wanchai)! Also included a couple upcoming runs that require pre-registration, as well as a pub quiz for a good cause!

Tsuen Wan: D-Park Baby Carnival

If you’ve got a crawler at home (6-25 months), this is their moment to shine. Free BB crawling races sponsored by Nippon Paint, plus carrying competitions for the slightly older tots. Even if your bub doesn’t get picked in the ballot, the carnival itself has play zones, games, and photo ops galore. Whilst you’re in the area, drop by The Mills Weave & Shout exhibition — I’ve heard so many great things about this one, its on my list to go!

Pokfulam: Traditional Bamboo Lantern Making Workshop

Here’s something special: learn to make a traditional bamboo rabbit lantern from Master Ng, a folk artist with 40+ years of fire dragon experience. He’ll guide you through bending bamboo, tying frames, and decorating. It’s $650 per parent-child pair (sharing one lantern) — pricey but genuinely artisanal. Canto only.

Tsim Sha Tsui: Dinosaur Parlour at Heritage Discovery Centre

Did you know dinosaur fossils were uncovered in Hong Kong 👀?? Excavated from Port Island, they’re now on display. Kids can touch real rock samples, pretend to be paleontologists at the Fossil Prep Station, and make dino-embossed bookmarks. Guided tours run 6 times daily on weekends — no booking needed, just show up.

Registrations Open: Pokemon Fun Run, Pici Run, Box of Hope Pub Quiz

Pokémon RUN 30 — Got a Pokemon obsessed kid at home? Check out the 2km Pokemon Fun Run happening on Jan 23–24, 2027 at HK Science Park. Registration just opened and it comes with cool Pokemon merch. Details

Pici Pasta Run — A 5/10K costume run with a big bowl of pasta at the end? YES please (I’ve personally been eyeing this since I saw it last year 😅). Happening 25 Oct and kids run free (adults are HKD250 but 100% goes to a good cause, Mind HK!). Details

Box of Hope Quiz Night — Gather a team of 4 and join Box Of Hope’s Quiz Night on 21 Sep @ The Globe. All proceeds go to a great cause — presents for underprivileged kids. Details
